The Monthly Stitch: Miss Bossy finished

My Notes:
Material $2.99 (sale)
Pattern $1.00
Wash away wonder $6.99 (used about half) $3.50
Thread and Button on hand
Total $7.49!

You chose, this cute pattern and this cute, very hard to work with material. I love it now that it's done, but boy it was hard to work with. It frayed horribly, and was very slippery.

I ended up using Dritz Wash Away Wonder Tape to sew the neckline, cuffs and hem. It worked wonderful. It's just like basting, doesn't gum up or stick to your needle, which means you can sew right over it. Then it disappears when washed. Love it!

I did French seams on the sides and should have done the same for the sleeves, but I didn't. (I thought the surged seam would be ok. Its just that.....ok, not beautiful)

For the back closure I made a thread button loop. Which was a new technique for me and fun. Here is a great video on how to make one.

I love the way it hangs, and feels.

Rag Quilt

Papas pants used again.

I made this for my son about 5 years ago. He liked pirates, so I embroidered several different pirate designs on the jean material before sewing the whole thing together. I also used 7 blocks for his name.

The jean material I used was from jeans the whole family had worn.

The back side is flannel. It is sized for a double plus size bed. Very heavy, very warm and very fun to make.

Make a Garment a Month: for March

I'm a member of monthly stitch. This months challenge was to let the members vote on what you will make from 3 choices. My first place vote was this cute little top from simplicity 1783.

Second runner up is this cute top from simplicity 1668. Top B. So I'll be sewing it for my March garment.

Well actually both, if I belong to two different blog groups, then I should do two different garments, right!?

The Monthly Stitch: Miss Bossy

I've joined The Monthly Stitch. This month we let the other members choose what we will make.
The idea is to search your pattern stash and choose three patterns that have been hanging around for a long time. My only problem is, I got rid of most of my patterns about 10 years ago when I thought I wasn't going to sew any more. Darn! So my choices are from newer patterns I haven't used yet.
First up is this cute blouse pattern by Butterick 5786. I want to make a swimsuit cover up with the material in the picture. Top B with a pocket and fold down collar. Isn't this material just so cute!

Next is this cute Simplicity pattern 1668. Top B in a beautiful sateen floral print. Looks like a comfy top I could just throw on and still look stylish.
Last, Simplicity pattern 1783. Yes another top. In a very sheer silky chiffon. This material is very thin and slippery. Could be a good challenge.
It's winter here and all I can think about is summer and sunshine. Making summer clothes in the winter just makes me feel better.
Now it's you turn. Please vote for the patter I should make in March for "The Monthly Stitch, Miss Bossy.

You be Missy Bossy and choose what I will sew next.

Little White Dress finished

My notes:
Pattern McCalls 6699 $10.77 sale
Material main
Lining
Zipper $3.29 sale

Inspiration: Little White Dress contest on Pattern Review, and RTW Fasters. I just got back from Hawaii and a little white dress is just what I need.
Earlier this month I made a wonderful beaded dress using McCalls 6699, more fitted than what I wanted for my LWD, but with a few changes it worked out just fine.
I found a beautiful embroidered cotton material at Joann's on sale.
I did didn't quite follow the laundry instruction. I put it in the dryer, cause I know I'll forget to line dry and throw it in the dryer and that's the kind of dress I want.

The changes I made to the pattern are: I gathered the bodice and skirt instead of using the darts, I also added about 4 inches to the side front of the skirt and 2 inches to both back sides. I also flared out the bottom of the skirt. Added lined the skirt.
One of the things I like best about this pattern is the pockets.
I loved the cut work/eyelet on the bottom of my inspiration dresses, with the embroidery on my material I thought I could cut the edge of my dress around that embroidery. I did a couple tests and found the the stitching was very secure for cutting. However the stitching didn't connect everywhere. So I found some white embroidery thread and did a chain stitch between the flowers.
I also used Fray check all along the embroidery where I cut it out. When it dried you can't see it.

Little White Dress Contest

2014 Little White Dress (Jan 16 - Feb 15)

I just joined Pattern Review.com and decided to enter their first contest of the year. I can't win because I'm new to the group, but ya gotta start somewhere.

Theme- Little White Dress. All white dress, no colored trim, photos of dress with no accessories, day accessories and night accessories.

The pattern I'm going to use is McCall's 6699. I've used this pattern before and it was a great fit.

I found this beautiful embroidered cotton.

I'm going to make the skirt fuller, and line it. Keep the pockets.

Here are my inspirations.

I plan on doing something to the hem, kind of like in the pictures.
Can't wait to get started.
Come back soon and see how it looks.

Garment a Month: January finished

Cozy Cozy Cozy

Love this......I'm going to call it a robe. I made this to wear with Pj's, ya know, when vacationing with another couple and you want to put your pj's on in the evening or not ready to get dressed in the morning .......and it's chilly........and don't want to put your bra on.....and you don't want your best buddies husband to stare at your chest, kind of robe. Lol

Love the hood.

A bit of a challenge to this material. Very messy. Fuzz everywhere.

It went together very fast. Used my serger for every part except the zipper. Speaking about the zipper, all that fur gets stuck in the zipper. However, the more I wear it, the earlier the zipper works.

Who says sewing cost more than buying RTW?

Fabric $21.87 Robe at Nordstrom $89.00

Pattern 2.47 My cost. 26.24

Zipper 1.89 Savings. $62.76!!!!!!!!

Total. $26.24
